Maggie Arnet has never been afraid of monsters. She’s known them all her life. In many respects, they are her closest friends, the constant companions she can always count on. She has never considered life without them until she moved in with Carmen Peterson, a beautiful and gregarious co-ed who sees no obstacle too challenging.
With little more than her beloved viola, Maggie finds a way into the hearts of her classmates. And with Carmen’s help, she’ll face the greatest test she’s ever known. Will she finally confront the demons that surround her or will she remain forever locked inside her prison walls?

I ordered this novel based on a friend's recommendation and loved it. It's not what is normally in my "wheel house" but it deftly handled the issue of Maggie's past trauma and loss, and how it affected her view of herself, both spiritually and visually. Ms Duffey also did a great job covering her struggle to trust others, finding that along the way she had to decide which people were trustworthy and which weren't. While many young women probably won't see themselves in Maggie's specific past, I'd be willing to bet many will see themselves in her struggle with "The Face in the Mirror" (and perhaps in the journey of the other characters in the novel).
Note: My "some violence" rating was just BARELY that. There was one incident that was quickly resolved but it was enough I couldn't say "none."

I feel like a good story line is one you can relate to and this book did just that. With that being said, this story is not just recounts of a mundane life. It is a story that makes you re-evaluate your actions and yourself. Almost everyone has insecurities but often we forget how hurtful it can be when we point out others'. This is a fantastic book that makes you laugh, cry and everything in between.
This is a wonderful book by Jennifer B Duffey. She is a very gifted author. You can't put the book down once you start reading. Eagerly awaiting her next book.
This book will grab you on the first page and you won't be able to put it down. There's laughter and tears that will grip you until the end. You'll get involved with the characters and be right there with them. A must read!
This book had me from day 1! I couldn't wait to see how Carmen and Maggie were going to help each other next. These girls are the perfect example of what a friendship really is! They helped each other grow in areas they didn't know they could grow.
A friend had loaned me a copy of the authors first book and i was drawn into it from page one. So when I heard she had written a second
book I was anxious to get a copy. I was not dissapointed. The story has characters that I could really relate to and was a really good read. Can't wait for the next one.
This story pulled you into the lives of these 2 young ladies quite well. The writing is clear and down to earth like the characters themselves. I like how you can take this books message and carry it through everyday life! Read it and you'll revaluate how you treat people and how encouragment is a key force on change!
